Weight problem becoming widespread all around the world due to bad eating habits, sedentary lifestyle and stress.

At some point, people lose their weight control and find themselves in a very tough situation that can’t be solved by diet and exercises only.

Under this conditions, bariatric surgeries such as balloon, sleeve or bypass become inevitable.

Here i will write about one of the most common bariatric surgery type ‘’Gastric Sleeve’’ .

Gastric Sleeve, also known as sleeve gastrectomy or vertical sleeve gastrectomy is a surgery basically restricts your food intake, which leads to weight loss. 

75-80% of the stomach is removed by this operation so you feel full with less food consume.

Gastric Botox, Gastric Balloon and Gastric Bypass are another procedures that aim weight-loss. Depending on patients’ BMI (Body Mass Index) the most suitable treatment decided by doctors.

As the first solution for those patients suffering from overweight and have relatively less BMI, gastric balloon procedure is suggested.

It’s a non-surgical procedure and easier to perform compared to gastric sleeve. One balloon is placed in stomach to reduce the volume there but if it doesn’t help, gastric sleeve becomes an urgency.

(In such cases where sleeve surgery doesn’t help either, gastric bypass comes up as the last solution which is another article’s topic.)

Some important information about Gastric Sleeve operation; 

• Operation lasts around 40-70 minutes.
• In 1-2 days, patients are discharged from hospital
• During the first 4 weeks after surgery, only liquid foods should be consumed
• Flour, sugar,alcohol etc. should be left until you achieve desired weight
• Dietitian’s suggestions should be strictly obeyed during the gradual transition from liquid to solid foods 

End of this process, with a better eating habit and regular exercises, ideal weight can be remained.
